Anti-Virus Malware Scanning Manual Update
The Anti-Virus Malware Scanning can be automatically updated via
the Scheduler. This is the recommended way to update the . In certain cases, the
Scheduler event may not occur and you may need to manually update the Anti-Virus
Malware Scanning files.
Updating Anti-Virus Agent (McAfee) for SurfControl E-mail
Filter
This procedure applies to SurfControl E-mail Filter v6.0.
- Download the Anti-Virus Agent update (dat.zip) on to the same machine as
SurfControl E-mail Filter, using the link below.
- Stop the rules and scheduler service (or make sure an AVA scheduled
update event is not in progress)
- Backup the McAfee signature directory - C:\Program Files\SurfControl
E-mail Filter\Engines\A38A39B6-F5FE-4be5-A576-A058565DABD8
- Extract scan.dat, internet.dat, names.dat, and clean.dat from the
downloaded zip file and save in the C:\Program Files\SurfControl E-mail
Filter\Engines\A38A39B6-F5FE-4be5-A576-A058565DABD8 folder. This will
overwrite the previous files with the same filename.
- Restart the rules and scheduler service.
- The Anti-Virus Agent update is now installed and will be used in rules.
A confirmation of a successful file upload will appear in the Monitor.

Updating Authentium (Command AV) for SurfControl E-mail
Filter
This procedure applies to SurfControl E-mail Filter v6.0.
- Download the zip file from the link below
- Stop the rules and scheduler service (or make sure an AVMS scheduled
update event is not in progress)
- Backup the Authentium signature directory - C:\Program Files\SurfControl
E-mail Filter\Engines\C199AFCE-9C83-42f3-AF5C-41298F2B5579
- Unzip the files (sc.ini and tested.zip) into a temporary location.
- Copy sc.ini into C:\Program Files\SurfControl E-mail
Filter\Engines\C199AFCE-9C83-42f3-AF5C-41298F2B5579
- Unzip tested.zip (sign.def, sign2.def, macro.def, nomacro.def,
css_1740.csv) into C:\Program Files\SurfControl E-mail
Filter\Engines\C199AFCE-9C83-42f3-AF5C-41298F2B5579
- Start the rules and scheduler service.
- The Anti-Virus Malware Scanning update is now installed and will be used
in rules. A confirmation of a successful file upload will appear in the
Monitor. Example: AVMS Initialized Authentium Scanning Engine. Version:

- Delete the backed up directory if update successful, otherwise reapply
the backup signature files.
