Anti-Virus Malware Scanning Manual Update

The Anti-Virus Malware Scanning can be automatically updated via the Scheduler. This is the recommended way to update the . In certain cases, the Scheduler event may not occur and you may need to manually update the Anti-Virus Malware Scanning files.

 

Updating Anti-Virus Agent (McAfee) for Websense Email Security

This procedure applies to Websense Email Security v7.2
  1. Download the Anti-Virus Agent update (datV2.zip) on to the same machine as Websense Email Security from the link below.
  2. Stop the rules and scheduler service (or make sure an AVA scheduled update event is not in progress).
  3. Backup the McAfee signature directory - C:\Program Files\Websense Email Security\Engines\A38A39B6-F5FE-4be5-A576-A058565DABD8
  4. Extract scan.dat, internet.dat, names.dat, and clean.dat from the downloaded zip file and save in the C:\Program Files\Websense Email Security\Engines\A38A39B6-F5FE-4be5-A576-A058565DABD8 folder. This will overwrite the previous files with the same filename.
  5. Restart the rules and scheduler service.
  6. The Anti-Virus Agent update is now installed and will be used in rules. A confirmation of a successful file upload will appear in the Monitor. Example: AVMS Initialized McAfee Scanning Engine. Version: Engine xxxx - Signatures #####

Updating Authentium (Command AV) for Websense Email Security

This procedure applies to Websense Email Security v7.2.
  1. Download the Authentium update (authentium5.zip) on to the same machine as Websense Email Security from the link below.
  2. Stop the rules and scheduler service (or make sure an AVMS scheduled update event is not in progress).
  3. Backup the Authentium signature directory - C:\Program Files\Websense Email Security\Engines\C199AFCE-9C83-42f3-AF5C-41298F2B5579
  4. Unzip the files (sc.ini and tested.zip) into a temporary location.
  5. Copy sc.ini into C:\Program Files\Websense Email Security\Engines\C199AFCE-9C83-42f3-AF5C-41298F2B5579
  6. Unzip tested.zip (aivsecon.def, antivir.def, antivir.ini) into C:\Program Files\Websense Email Security\Engines\C199AFCE-9C83-42f3-AF5C-41298F2B5579
  7. Start the rules and scheduler service.
  8. The Anti-Virus Malware Scanning update is now installed and will be used in rules. A confirmation of a successful file upload will appear in the Monitor. Example: AVMS Initialized Authentium Scanning Engine. Version: Engine xxxx - Signatures #####
  9. Delete the backed up directory if update successful, otherwise reapply the backup signature files.
